All Families with school-aged children can be part of our Families of Nazareth Faith Formation.
“Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues. This requires an apprenticeship in self-denial, sound judgment, and self-mastery-the preconditions of all true freedom. Parents should teach their children to subordinate the ‘material and instinctual dimensions to interior and spiritual ones.’ Parents have a grave responsibility to give good example to their children. By knowing how to acknowledge their own failings to their children, parents will be better able to guide and correct them.” (CCC 2223)
Here at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, we aim to assist parents in their vital role in raising their children in the Catholic faith. We do this by:
1) Educating the family. Parents and children in Grades 1-7 attend twice a month sessions where they are given tools they need to grow in faith as a family throughout the month. The first session parents and children are separated for the majority of the time, so parents can be equipped to teach the lessons to their children over the course of the month. The second session brings the family together for a faith-based family activity.
2) Providing Resources for the Parents and children.
*All families with children in Grades 3-7 will receive A Family of Faith parent book and children's books to use for the year.
*Grade 1 Children receive a separate book specific to Grade 1
*Grade 2 Children and families use an online course as well as books that accompany it. Signs of Grace.
